Furious!

I’m as furious as an angry dog! To say the least: My now former host company simply kicked Happy Hotelier from their server, claiming that it was possibly too successful and caused server overload the last couple of days WITHOUT ANY WARNING.
No significant changes had been made … only a steady growth of visitors to the site.
And I lost a post….actually I’m glad i lost only one post….

In the meantime there will be a transition period where photos can not be seen and if you landed here from the outside world, then you probably landed on a wrong page.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Actually this is a big THANK YOU to my readership! You have made this blog very popular by your frequent visits!

Update

In the meantime I’ve found out that when you export and import posts via the WordPress interface the photo links may change and be correct…., but if you copy one WordPress installation from one server to another server, the photo links remain as they are on the server you copy from…. Latter I did here. Now we have to wait until the Domain name moves from one host to the other host.

In addition it is important that you give your media correct file permissions (644 is too low).

Update 2
Things are back to normal … more or less as of today, October 17, 2010.

  1. Hi Guido,

Your blog seems to be pointing to happyhoteliertest.westhostsite.com – I am not sure if this is as result of the hosting change? I am reading more and more stories of WordPress powered blogs being suspended because of high CPU usage since WP 3.0 was launched.

I understand this is caused because you are either using many plugins, or, have too many scripts trying to load on your blog. There’s quite a few blog posts about the CPU issue on Google.

[Ed. have deleted the link as the pointing was not necessary anymore October 16, 2010]

  2. The redirect is from my current host to my new host where it has a temporary name.
I’m awaiting the transfer of the happyhotelier.com domain to the new host.

I’m not sure what causes the problems. Thank you for your pointer to this being an issue. I was not aware of it and at least I had expected that my current host had warned me, instead of taking two of my blogs offline, even worse, they also took my hotel site offline in the same move….The other problem off course is my wish to convert the hotel site into a WordPress based site….hm

Hi , The CPU usage for wordpress is high all the time and i have this problem with all hosting companies that i run my website on . Is it solved in version 3.0 ? If yes how much ? Is it better for me to upgrade my wp version to 3.0 ( because i have high traffic ) ?

Yes, WordPress 3.0 uses less CPU and memory than 2.9.2, but all of this depends on your definition of “high CPU usage.” Most issue with high CPU usage are usually caused by one of three things:

    1. Poorly coded plugins. Try deativating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    2. Ridiculously low CPU caps. Some hosting providers, particularly low-cost providers, cap your maximum CPU at a ridiculously low level. This can give the illusion that WP is prone to “high CPU usage,” when in fact the CPU usage is actually low to moderate.

    3. A very high traffic blog with lots of plugins. If this is the case, consider caching.

How about templates ? Are wp2.9’s templates compatible with V3.0 ?
